The USDA-FSIS has announced the 8th recall of ground beef this summer. About 884 pounds of Shaw’s ground beef has been recalled because it may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The recalled beef was produced on August 31 and distributed to Shaw’s grocery stores in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
The recalled ground beef includes the following:
1.33-pound trays of “SHAW’S FRESH GROUND ROUND BEEF PATTIES, 85/15.” Each package bears the establishment number “Est. 492” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Each “Nutrition Facts” label bears a time stamp between “17:05” and “17:25” as well as a date code of “243.”
About 6.2 million pounds of ground beef have been recalled this summer, and dozens of people have contracted E. coli infections associated with consumption of the recalled beef. Given the nation-wide nature of the problem, anyone diagnosed with E. coli O157:H7 should suspect ground beef as the source.
