Health officials in Bakersfield, California are looking for the source of an E. coli outbreak that has sickened 12 people, 11 of them children. What is particularly worrying is that 4 of the children have been hospitalized with complications asociated with E. coli O157:H7 infections, including hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). HUS is the leading source of kidney failure among children in the U.S.
